FORMATION
The Minara Chamber of Commerce is a formally constituted organization representing and assisting South African businesses and entrepreneurs following Islamic Principles and ethos. The Chamber since inception has broadened its collaboration to several institutes and membership to all Businesses.
MISSION
The Mission of the chamber is to provide a guiding vision for businesses and to promote and strengthen business activities for our members.
VISION
The vision of the Minara Chamber of Commerce is the establishment of a dynamic and vibrant business community which is guided by an Islamic tenet and which makes a meaningful contribution to the socio economic development of the community of South Africa.
SERVICES
The Minara Chamber of Commerce provides a platform for businesses to benefit by collaborating, cooperating and supporting each other. Minara provides the following services to its members:
• Creating Business Networking Opportunities
• Hosting of Inbound and Outbound Trade Missions
• Promotion of Youth & Women Entrepreneurship
• Providing and facilitating access to information and business best practice
• Dissemination of information via the Minara Chamber of Commerce website, the Minara Newsletter and mainstream and community media.
• Establishment of a databank and resource centre
• Training seminars, workshops and mentorship programs
• Advocacy, lobbying and networking in various forums at the national, provincial and local levels in the Governmental and Economic spheres.
• Initiating research and development
Minara operates from its head office in Durban, KwaZulu Natal and a regional office in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
In pursuance of its vision, Minara has engaged in a wide range of projects and initiatives in different areas including the economic, political, social and educational spheres. This has helped build and solidify Minara’s profile and has brought with it acknowledgement, recognition and support from the different spheres of government and organized commerce and industry.
Minara has always endeavoured to partner with Organisations and Institutions with the necessary resources and expertise in the implementation of its programmes and project resulting in much more beneficial and effective outcomes.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
1. Minara Fund Raising Golf Day
Minara has yearly Golf Days to raise funds for charitable organisations from both sponsors and participants which is a successful yearly event.

2. Recognition Awards
Minara is affiliated to FNB’s Islamic Finance Awards and acts as an official on the judging panel. These awards serve to recognise companies and individuals for their outstanding achievements in business and social contributions.
3. Education Fund
Minara considers that education to our young and old is at the forefront to human empowerment and long term sustainability of individuals and has therefore set up an education fund to support its member’s contributions towards sponsoring bursaries for disadvantaged children’s and youth’s primary, secondary and tertiary education.
4. Hajj Fund
Minara is currently setting up an initiative to collect funds to send disadvantaged Muslims on pilgrimage.
We intend to raise sufficient funds to at least send 4 people for Hajj during the 2010 year, God willing.
5. Social Economic Development
Going forward into the current year, Minara is teaming up with other organisations to raise funds and facilitate empowering the un-bankable and needy communities to create small businesses to generate continuous revenue.
6. SA Muslims 2010 Welcome
Minara is involved with the initiative to assist and guide Muslim tourists on places to stay and amenability of mosques and Halaal restaurants and also informing the hospitality sector on the manner in which to cater for the guest’s requirements.
MEMBERSHIP
- Minara is an internationally respected non-profit organisation which serves in promoting professionalism and excellence in networking with Business, Government, Embassies and International Trade Missions.
- The Chamber transcends national boundaries and has endeavoured to build bridges between local and international operators. Trade is the life-blood of all nations and is inextricably linked with their development and progress. As an internationally recognized non-profit organisation, we are keen to facilitate the un-locking of exciting trade opportunities.
- Minara invests substantial resources and time, in identifying and participating on important platforms of trade-fairs and exhibitions, both locally and globally.
- Minara encourages its members and subscribers to utilise these windows of opportunity, as both exhibitors and visitors, to seek-out new technologies, latest trends, purchase and sell products, and establish partnerships.
- Minara Chamber also supports businesses with their applications to the Department of Trade and Industry, for incentive schemes offered in participation at exhibitions.
